Drinks at the Jasper Park Lodge
The Emerald Lounge is possibly my favorite spot for a cocktail in the Rockies. The entire property of sprawling cabins and bungalows including the open plan lobby lounge with its relaxed yet sophisticated mountain charm evoke thoughts of the ultimate couture camping experience. Relax by the fire, read the news (on your mobile of course), play a quick game of chess or contemplate the colours of the lake. Come in your hiking boots or heels...

Air Jasper
Go retro in a Cessna. I don't have anything against the heli tours but nothing beats the experience of a turbo 210. If you're not planning on climbing the highest peak in the Rockies anytime soon I suggest the Mount Robson and Amethyst Lake tour. They also do custom tours! Bomber jackets not required...

Shop at Mountain Galleries
I never tire of this gallery, always fresh and energetic the store features Canadian artists in major and mid career. The owner, Wendy Wacko, has an incredible eye so it's always worth having a good mooch around.

Mountain Goats
I'm not big on animal voyeurism but these mountain goats are truly magnificent and worthy of a good look. They are extremely hard to spot anywhere else in the National Parks so if you get a chance while you're in Jasper, take it. Early morning is always best, grab a cappuccino and berry torte from Bear's Paw Bakery. Mind your manners and don't feed the wildlife.

Edith Cavell Meadows
If you're wanting to do a proper hike in Jasper, Edith Cavell Meadows is the one. It's got all the features of a true climb while offering less strenuous options for the not so adventurous (a short 1.6km self-guiding lake trail or an easy hike to the Angel Glacier lookout). Wildflowers galore, glistening glaciers, towering cliffs and a rough approach road make this a classic mountain hike. It take 5-6 hrs to complete the full 8.5km circuit.
